Agreed that no coach is going to tell one of their players to supplement their diet with a piece of an opponents body, but Paul Rowley (despite coming across as a nice individual if you meet him face to face), does seem happy for his players to rough up the opposition if it helps them win the game. McNamara similarly (in the past at least), who's overheard comments down to the touchline last season in the M8's at the Shay weren't quite encouraging sporting play.
Back in 2014, the behaviour of the Rowley coached Leigh team at the Shay, which saw Sam Barlow being sent off and then head-butt a Fax player as he was leaving the field, unfortunately resulted in the Fax team seeking retribution back at the LSV. Dane Manning totally lost it, and ended up putting Sam in hospital. A sad affair with a deserved 10 match ban for Manning as a result.
Biting is one of the worst offences (imo) in RL as in most cases it's a deliberate action, albeit there have been incidents of players having arms forced downwards on to their face (meaning they can't breathe) where doing anything to defend your position can probably be justified.
A heavy ban indeed is justified and expected.
