Jimmy Birts sadly passed away recently aged 57. Jimmy won't be remembered by many on here but he was the A team fullback early on Keith Mumby's career, so needless to say he moved on without playing many First Team games (indeed if any at all, my memory fails me) to Halifax. Subesquently played for Wigan, I think Mr Bamford too khim over there.
I do remember Jimmy, good player who arrived at the wrong time. Seem to remember he did make an odd appearance for Northern around, oohh 1976 ish but became a big crowd hero when he went to Halifax.
Hard to think of any fullback who would have got much chance with Sir Keith as first choice, as he rarely missed any games. Commiserations to Jimmy's family and friends.
