Hi does anyone know what the situation is with winners rings is for players after the Grand Final?

Ive been told that only the 17 players who play on GF day are guaranteed a ring and he club are then given 5 rings to allocate to players as they see fit.

Given we've used a big squad it seems a little unfair that several players will miss out on one if this is true.

The 17 who played plus S.Tomkins, Manfredi, Clubb, Shorrocks and Bretherton seems fair enough. Can't see McIlorum and J.Tomkins being too miffed when they hardly played and already have winners rings.

It's 25 rings handed out. Clubs can apply to SL for more in "exceptional circumstances"

I'd like to see Gregson with one, as he really helped standing in at 6. But I appreciate he didn't play that much.

I always feel that the ring is meaningless if you didn't actually play, even though it was the whole squad that got us there and all of the above mentioned deserve some recognition. In their own hearts they will know they didn't play in the GF. For the likes of Sam it would be an empty feeling IMO. It's not like winning the LLS where everyone who played (say above 5 games) would deserve a medal.

But that is exactly what it is supposed to signify. The idea of rings for the squad is supposed to be part of the playoff philosophy. It's supposed to show there is effort to get the final in the first place and recognise that doing so will require the efforts of more than 17 players throughout the season.

If people/players feel a ring for players who don't take part on the day is a hollow prize then it's just shows we in the UK have failed to understand the whole concept. The only game that matters is the final is certainly how many see it which just reinforces antipathy towards the rest of the regular rounds and poor performances written off. The GF is supposed to the culmination of a team effort with the league part of it.

Fair point. Whilst it was indeed a squad effort I just think that Sam and Joel for example will feel that the ring does have a hollow feel to it (pun)

Why do they even have rings? Seems strange. What happened to giving out medals?

Could be wrong but I don't think it was ever medals.....?
