So Sky have battened down the hatches to hang on to their sports portfolio in the teeth of the BT assault .
the RFL have stuck a wise deal I wonder?

| Great deal, seems BT Sports have forced Sky to act. Nice to see Super League being valued as it should have been a long time ago.
Shame they can't make a decent advert though.

| Personally I don't see this as particularly great news.
By renewing with Sky, albeit for an increased amount it just means that the sport continues with the same old worn out administration and lack of leadership.
By having some extra cash, presumably those clubs struggling will get a bit of a lifeline to struggle on rather than have to come up with real innovations.
I reckon it will make it even less likely that Dr K will get support from the other chairmen to drive through the kind of changes that he has been proposing as inevitably if totally dependent upon the Sky money and the beneficence of the RFL why would they vote for change?

Quote From Eamon McManus :-

AT present the true Value of the Deal and what cut the individual SL - CC club will finally receive in 2017 is still speculative.
the impression I get is the clubs will end up with 1.8M basic up from the 1.2M they currently receive .
I get BF's comment . only hope that Sky's attitute & presentation of the comp is given the same restructure the game has been given and we are not treated as a 2nd class throwaway sport to put on at odd times when something more worthy ( Golf , Beach Volleyball , jello wrestling) isn't given priority.

| You'd hope that with an influx of cash the powers that be make clubs do more to earn it, I've said for a long time that all wages should be paid from a central holding fund managed directly by SL/RFL, that way you gaurantee players wages and also money is used for the right things. Would love to see the one exempt player being introduced and that then being paid directly by the clubs.
Personally feel that clubs should have a minimum spend set for promotion/marketing, we might have a brilliant sport but the marketing and promotion of it is by and large shocking, SKY you'd think would be all for this as the greater the exposure of SL the more saleable advertising when games are being broadcast.
I wonder if the likes of Bradford and Wakefield will be allowed to borrow against this future influx to help them through their current problems.

There is that. However, I reckon it’s a good deal for rugby league. TV consumption habits are changing very quickly and I think the length of these Sky tie-ups gives those sporting organisations or even clubs time to explore how they broadcast the sport themselves if indeed the ar =#000000se falls out of large scale pay TV. (They probably won’t do anything in this regard.)

Think most people have issues with SKY based on the game day on screen talent, what people have seen is how entertaining broadcasters can be with the brilliant Premier coverage of the World Cup. Doubt SKY could but getting someone like Andrew Voss would go some way to placating most.
One thing I'd hope for in the new deal is that SL/RFL have insisted that the situation that arose a couple of years ago when we were forced to change game days at the last moment and as a result play at Leigh can't be enforced again, SKY should be able to ask for changes like that but only if it works for all parties.
