| The "shoulder charge" is a ridiculous part of our game & I'm glad it's being outlawed.

Sorry Colin, on this occasion I can't agree, it's a contact sport and as long as the contact is not to the head I can't see the problem.

I can see both view points as being valid.
I think it hinges on what is classed as fair sporting contact.
On the one hand rugby league is much about physical contact and imposing yourself on the opposition or your opposite number.
On the other hand in todays game with the pace it is played at some of the shoulder charge type contact could cause severe injuries.
A key point is that the shoulder charge is in effect replacing a normal type tackle that would be less dangerous and you can put a big hit on with normal tackle technique still using the shoulder in more traditional way.
This has less chance of causing head, neck, spinal type injuries associated with the recent modern use of the shoulder charge tackle.
I don't think the game will suffer too much if it is outlawed.

There in lies a clue.
Shoulder check........Body check.
They are must less aggresive and dangerous involving one party being stationary or just slight movement, however even "check" type play is not accepted as proper tackling technique and both are normally penalised as obstruction.
Depending on whereabouts on the field it happens it can be viewed as a professional foul with ten minutes in the bin.
Shoulder charge is now being viewed as bordering on violent conduct that is either a red card or nothing.
Therein lies the dilema, you can be binned for a "check" obstruction but not for a "charge" that is often much worse.
If the lesser of the two types of offence, "check" is to be penalised then it would be logical that the greater of the two "charge" would be as well, but how.
Solution outlaw "charge" from the game and problem solved.

I cant find any players that agree with you.
Do we really want to go down this route?

That is quite frankly embarrassing getting sin binned for that.

| The clown in suits have gone way over the top with this. Its a skill and a good shoulder charge is a beautiful thing and can be match changing. When its done badly then it should be an automatic 8 games or more ban. The vast majority of fans, players and coaches all want in and yet the clowns ban it. The Coaches and Players have strongly suggested dropping the interchange down to 8 or even 6 so players are not so fresh and will lessen the impact in shoulder charges. This suggestion has been ignored at by the clowns who only want what they want.

| I actually agree with the powers that be for once . I think it's dangerous and at the end of the day it's not a tackle . A tackle should be made with arms and not shoulder .

| We all loved Makali's big hits, but most, if not all, would be classed as shoulder charges. However, they did cause injuries, even though his technique was good enough to avoid being penalised.
Now he'll be playing against us, I think this is probably a good thing for us!
I agree that we do need to differentiate between blocks with the shoulder, and those that involve a conscious forward movement towards the ball carrier though.
